There are rumours running around that Viacom is expected to buy Last.fm for 450 million USD. Mashable reports on a DealBreaker.com rumour that Viacom is chucking in an offer for the “YouTube” of music.
Looks interesting – especially as this will be one of the first large web2.0 music capitalisations. Furthermore, there might be something happening as Joi is in SF for a day and AFAIK he’s on the board of last.fm.

Jani Jalonen, the CEO of Elements Music, writes on his blog about the recent data he heard from the Finnish IFPI. They haven’t been officially released yet, but they ought to be out soon. According to Jani, they are pretty miserable.
- Music sales came down about 27% in last month compared to figure one year ago.
- In February 2007, sales in Euros came down 16,2% and when measured in units 15,3%
I’ll try to remember to update the official figures once they come out. Doesn’t look too good for the music industry at the moment.

Wow – this is cool. An excellent way to begin my summer holiday. I’m riding my Triumph to North Karelia to see H.I.M. play their gig on saturday evening (July 15th) in Ilosaarirock. The following day they are warming up the crowd for Metallica in the Olympic Stadium. Especially when I’ve got tickets to both gigs :-)

Just got back from one of the most entertaining events I have ever been to – Snoop Dogg and P.Diddy gig. They were in Helsinki last night to begin their tour promoting hip hop. So what do the three things have in common I mentioned in the title? They all played a major role tonight – P.Diddy has a valuation of about 320 million USD, today happened to be the 10th anniversary of Notorious BIG’s death and I had a massive sprained ankle to stand on for about 5 hours (and friggin’ walk home after the gig) – needless to say I’m in need of some rest.
Didn’t take any photos but to sum it up – these guys know how to entertain people! Off to bed now…

I wrote about it in 2005 and now it’s true: PandoraFM.
