Heading to Helsinki

We left Lievisk?§ behind us and are driving towards Helsinki. It was awesome relaxing for a few days in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully I’ll be able to check my mail in Helsinki as I’m writing this from my Nokia :)

Have a good weekend people!

Patches and stickers

I added 4 photos I took of my hard work on my backpack. I stiched 7 flags onto it. I also added a photo of my powerbook and a Bush badge.

Laitaatsilta Dock

It’s 7.30pm here and its still quite sunny. I’m cycling to the town for our thursday meeting :)

Greetings from Airlie Beach!

Greetings from Airlie Beach! It’s in the eastern coast - some 20+ hours by bus from Sydney (at least, cause I have to go through those hours :p). I’ve been snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, catching rays in the Airlie Beach lagoon and heading south to Fraser Island where I will be renting a 4×4 car to explore the world’s largest sand island. Should be fun :)

But man, do I need to find some money when I come back - I’ve been spending a bit more than I expected and I’m only half way through my 2 week trip. I’ll be back in Sydney on Sunday th 24th to pack up my stuff and move out the next day. All righty - photos will be up when I get back from here.

ps. I’m wasting time here as I’m about to catch a bus to Hervey Bay, which will take 13 hours (luckily it’s a night bus!)

Nokia Sensor - the coolest mobile app ever!

Nokia SensorPeople - this is the coolest mobile application ever and it’s called the Nokia Sensor. It is available for free download for Series60 phones on the Nokia website.

It basically is an application that you can use to create your own little “website” on your phone and other people with the application and a bluetooth connection are able to check out your “website” (on your phone through bluetooth) and contact you, write a guestbook entry or check out your shared images and videos.

Holy crap! Sound amazing?! To me it does. Not sure if this will ever pick up dramatically, but I think people will be doing a lot more toothing around (and I don’t think it will be a hoax anymore, like the website claims).

Working on two computers

I’ve thought about this before and to be honest, it was just a matter of time when this occured. I work on my master’s thesis on two different computers, the on here at work and my Powerbook at home. I copied all the stuff from my network drive to my Mac on thursday to be able to work on my Mac in Savonlinna. (I keep the files on my network drive, which I am able to access from both locations.)

This morning, I copied the files from my Mac back to my network drive to keep them up-to-date. I came to work, opened the computer and opened the files I was going to start writing and working on…. crap. They were last thursday’s versions and none of the stuff had copied from my Mac to the network drive - even though it asked to replace everything, still nothing.

This is kind of frustrating as I now am unable to work on anything basically. I have a meeting at 1 o’clock with my professor and I am going to stay here until that, but I will now have to come up with some other stuff to keep me busy - useful stuff that is. Maybe I’ll read a few books for info and gather some more articles, but damnit - monday mornings just claimed their status as the not so wonderful mornings (again).

Is there a program or a service people could come up with to keep these sort of things from happening? I know there are drives online to stop this, but it should be able to work on offline basis as well. I think quite a few people would pay for this kind of service.

MoBlog..finally set up

Argh - what a nuisance it has been to set up my moblog. I had to put back my MovableType engine to run the moblog - why? Because mfop2 supports it well and I have no complaints what-so-ever. However, I had so many problems trying to install a moblogging hack/plugin (whatever you call it) to WordPress.

One of the reasons why it has been so hard is because the API doesn’t support multimedia attachments to my knowledge - not 100% sure, but this is the case. Also, many of the scripts that were available for a moblog required cron jobs and other extreme tuning to be done. I don’t like that. I want to keep the blog simple as possible. mfop2 now sends all the stuff to my blog and updates it without cron jobs. Nice and simple, just the way I like it.

The downside of this of course is that this reminds my previous site quite a lot. But I think this works quite well so I’ll let it be like this. I also realised how important a moblog was to me personally. I also keep it as a place to store photos so I can remember when I’ve been doing what etc. In some ways I think it is easier to post to my moblog and store the stuff here, rather than download it with a cable from my phone. Why? Sending an e-mail to mfop2 is rather painless and quick - the downside? GPRS costs, just what I ranted about a bit in my recent post.
