2 must have WP plugins

I came across 2 excellent Wordpress plugins tonight as I was finishing off the facelift I began yesterday. They are both coded by Joe Tan from TanTanNoodles.com.

  • Flickr Photo Album for Wordpress: This pulls in your Flickr account stuff and shows them in a very nice and integrated way in your blog. Here are my photographs I pulled in tonight. It took me about 30 minutes of configuring to tweak the default stylesheet to show it the way it is at the moment.
  • Google Analytics and Feedburner Reports: this little app pulls in your Google Analytics data as well as your Feedburner site stats into the WP dashboard. Again, very easy to use and extremely handy.

Both apps strongly suggested!!

Evolution of blogging

Found this on Mashable.com - pretty explicatory. :)

(Thanks!)

Facelift

Stuck inside with a sprained ankle on a nice sunny day isn’t exactly the ideal way of spending your Sunday. However, I decided to do something useful and productive which resulted in a facelift of my blog. The design is by N.Design Studio.

Permission to link to Aussie Gov’t

Linux Overdose blogs how he got permission to link to the Aussie Gov’t pages @ australia.gov.au (I won’t create the link since I haven’t asked permission - pun intended).

This is like asking people to ask you permission before they mention your name…

Book 2.0 in Finnish

An old school colleague from HSE Mikkeli is writing a Book 2.0 in Finnish with Niko, a one man venture as he puts it. Sami Salmenkivi and Niko Nyman are writing a book in Finnish about all the web 2.0 effects that have so much been hyped about in English that Finnish (only) speakers have been left out. Should be an interesting read once it comes out.

Naturally, the book has a blog which can be found here.

Themes going kaboom!

If you’ve visited this site recently you may have noticed the varying themes. I have no idea why Wordpress keeps on popping back to the old theme by itself - anybody have any ideas? I haven’t had the time to investigate it too much (well, at all actually) and thus I turn to the audience :-).

Update: Finally managed to fix this. I changed the default folder on the server to something and then changed the preferred theme’s folder to default. Seems to work.

New layout

I just re-designed my website’s layout. It’s now a bit more… hmm, reserved and professional perhaps. I also updated the WordPress engine to 2.0.4. I also let go of my flickr photos as I recently changed my mobile phone (and the Nokia 9300i doesn’t have a camera).

Comments? :-)

Update: and I’m back with the old… didn’t like the new one even myself :)

Longtail - The Movie

Exhausted, but extremely happy

I’ve had one of the toughest weeks of this summer this week. Lots of sports, lots of get togethers with friends and the obligatory partying. It’s 1.45 AM right now and I think I’ve well surpassed my physical ability to stay refreshed in 24-hour cycles.

Things are going great at work. We’ve launched lots of new games in our sites and things are simply going well :-) I think that’s the most I can say without getting punched at in work ;-)

Although - I can say more about the coming weekend: I’m going to enjoy the ever-so-great Ilosaarirock in Northern Karelia. The bands aren’t the best this year, but the atmosphere is 80% of the price of the ticket anyhow.

Exhausted, but extremely happy and tired - I will hit the bed now. I will be on a semi-holiday next week and hopefully I will be offline as much as I can, but let’s see how it’ll work out. Nevertheless moblogging will work everywhere and that’ll probably be the bloggin’ I’ll be doing…

From a paperclip to a house

Kyle Macdonald managed to trade a red paperclip to a house in Canada. It didn’t happen all at once, as it took him a year. However, through small increments in the swaps he finally managed to trade a movie role for a house in Canada. And being 2006, he has written all about it in his blog.

Congrats to Kyle!
