The labels have been very active at lobbying legislators on copyright law etc. They have now given up on drm, which I think is an unofficial admission that people are allowed to share music. So it would be quite absurd if they still kept on lobbying for copyright legislation that prohibits any kind of sharing or even ripping your own cds (like RIAA). Now, the interesting part: What if the EU or single countries keep pushing for drm? Are the labels going to start lobbying AGAINST drm? I think this is going to get very interesting.
