Take a look at this online payment merchant - PayEx. They used to be called Faktab Finance. If you wait a while and follow the main flash banner, you will find out that they too have figured out that their name probably wasn’t always understood the way it was supposed to…

New York Times has an article on how 22-year old Mark Zucherman has been offered close to 900 million dollars for his social networking site Facebook. He turned down an offer of $750m offer from Viacom in January as he was asking for 2 billion USD.
Social networking sites aren’t going to be just internet sites in the near future, they are going to platforms where millions of people spend time.

An old school colleague from HSE Mikkeli is writing a Book 2.0 in Finnish with Niko, a one man venture as he puts it. Sami Salmenkivi and Niko Nyman are writing a book in Finnish about all the web 2.0 effects that have so much been hyped about in English that Finnish (only) speakers have been left out. Should be an interesting read once it comes out.
Naturally, the book has a blog which can be found here.

I haven’t had the time to blog for ages, apologies for that. But last weekend was a blast meeting different very interesting people. On Friday, I went to play monopoly with future economists with a few friends and new friends to be at KY. There was a lot of hassling and dealing going on - the famous Marrakech marketplace would have seem like a calm place compared to our dealing.
On Saturday, I took part in the HSE BScBA Alumni’s annual Crab Party. Crab, shots and another night out - tough. It’s always nice to see alumni members from as far back as BBA 5s taking part and partying like it was 1998 :-)
Anyhow, there’s lots going on and thus the lack in blogging. Oh, and I finally finished The Long Tail only start with Jack Trout’s Differentiate or Die (don’t know how I’ve managed to skip this great book for so long).

Fortune has a good article on MySpace and how it came to be the brand and giant it is nowadays. The article also gives us a hint that things haven’t gone dorment under Murdoch’s acquisition:
The upside, of course, is the sugar-daddy factor: that deep-pocketed parent to back your best ideas. Of the 20 new products in development, DeWolfe is particularly excited about VoIP, the 11 new international sites, and MySpace News. Several e-commerce deals - including a likely partnership with eBay or Amazon - are in the works, as is a MySpace Sports site and MySpace Fashion. DeWolfe and executives at Fox Interactive Media, which oversees more than 20 News Corp. Internet businesses, are also upgrading MySpace’s photo- and video-storage capabilities to compete with the likes of YouTube and Yahoo’s Flickr. “Chris and Tom are adamant about trying to wage war on a feature basis rather than by blocking access (to other sites),” says Michael Barrett, FIM’s chief revenue officer, who joined News Corp. from AOL in June.

If you’ve visited this site recently you may have noticed the varying themes. I have no idea why Wordpress keeps on popping back to the old theme by itself - anybody have any ideas? I haven’t had the time to investigate it too much (well, at all actually) and thus I turn to the audience :-).
Update: Finally managed to fix this. I changed the default folder on the server to something and then changed the preferred theme’s folder to default. Seems to work.
