On connectivity

October 29th, 2005

This is something that should already be solved - some 20 odd years into the PC/MAC revolution. I tried to transfer some files to my friend. I connected my Mac to his PC and there was no way we could get the two computers to connect and transfer the files. We have managed to done it before, but now it didn’t work through a direct connection, through a hub or through anything. Then we connected ourselves to the internet, opened up Skype and had a go at that.

And it worked! The sweet thing is that Skype transfers directly to the other computer through the hub and does not go beyond our LAN and therefore the speeds are very good. Now my question is, why can’t this be achieved through normal computer OSs? Shouldn’t be that hard BillG and SteveJ…
