I’m off today for a tour of the South-East Finland. I will be starting my travels by heading off to Lappeenranta to show my professor my thesis. After showing the thesis tomorrow morning, I’ll be taking the train to Imatra and going into the Finnish outback with my cousin for a few days - haven’t seen him in abt 9 months I think, if not more.
From there I’ll head down to Helsinki for a crayfish party with the HSE alumni on saturday, should be fun! And once I get rid of the worst headache I’ll start my way up to Savonlinna again… Phew, a long trip and 5 days to cover it :)
Have a good weekend and don’t expect too much blogging (except moblogging perhaps) during the end end of the week!

I was just thinking, would the current catastrophy in Southern US make the people (at least around that area) more critical of the current US environmental policy and actually begin thinking of the results of not caring for the environment?
I hope they do - even if Katrina has no direct link to global warming, then again I’m sure global warming isn’t exactly helping the situation.

I added 4 photos I took of my hard work on my backpack. I stiched 7 flags onto it. I also added a photo of my powerbook and a Bush badge.

Phil has done some extensive preparation for this one. He’s launching Radio Free Finland, a live podcast that everybody can tune into on Sunday evenings (22-23 Finnish time).
He says the show will be “like a variety show - kinda like a mix between The Diane Rehm Show, NPR‚Äôs Fresh Air, The Daily Show, and Conan O‚ÄôBrien”. Sounds interesting to me. I’m definitely tuning in on Sunday (hoping I’m back from Helsinki by then, that is).

25.8.2005 will go down in my personal history as the day the Trade Registry approved my filing for my company and the data is now up to date in the Finnish Business Information database (YTJ).
The up side in the early meters of a new company is that you start to get schwag from other companies trying to market to you. Pohjola sent me already neat stickit notes :)

I’ve began going to the gym again this week - trying to get back into shape (like I was in shape before!) But I have to say, an hour at the gym and afterwards a close to a kilometre at the swimming pool does make you feel good. So good actually that I’m gonna take the bike into town for the thursday beer special :-) This special has become a sort of a tradition to hook up with friends and discuss different things going on in the city, etc. It’s got that pub atmosphere into it, you know? Something you don’t normally get in other Finnish bars in my opinion.
Righty, I’m gonna skull this coffee and take my bike for a ride!

Via foe romeo: Skype goes on a sharing rampage, thus keeping to it’s promise and motto: Sharing is good!
Soon you’ll be able to call from Google Talk to Skype and IM while doing it - sounds good to me!

Google has launched it’s own IM-service Google Talk. It uses the Jabber protocol as a means of communication and happily it’s open source so it’s good news. The good things about this is that you don’t need to develop a whole set of clients for people to use, as there are a number of other clients readily available. The new thing that Google added was the VoIP calls, well new and new, but still.
I’m just wondering what Google will be trying to achieve through this? More integration with GMail to provide a better package to compete with MSN/Hotmail and Yahoo/YahooMail ? Time will tell…

From Blogikriitikko X:
3) :: antti vilpponen net :: on englanninkielinen blogi. Vaikka teksti?§ onkin enemm?§n kuin edellisess?§ blogissa, ei se silti tarkoita, ett?§ sis?§lt?? olisi sen mielekk?§?§mp?§?§. Valokuvia, elokuvia, tietotekniikkaa, matkustelua, kuulumisia… Toki t?§m?§ vaikuttaa kypsemm?§lt?§ yritelm?§lt?§, mutta kuka muka jaksaa lukea noin pitki?§ ja yksityiskohtaisia sepustuksia, ellei sitten tunne kirjoittajaa henkil??kohtaisesti. Jos jaksaa silloinkaan.
Sorry foreigners, it’s a quote from a blog critics website that basicly states that “my website is a more mature attempt at a blog, however who wants and cares to read such long entries, unless you know the author. And I doubt even then you’d want to read the blog”. :-)
