MoBlog..finally set up

December 1st, 2004

Argh - what a nuisance it has been to set up my moblog. I had to put back my MovableType engine to run the moblog - why? Because mfop2 supports it well and I have no complaints what-so-ever. However, I had so many problems trying to install a moblogging hack/plugin (whatever you call it) to WordPress.

One of the reasons why it has been so hard is because the API doesn’t support multimedia attachments to my knowledge - not 100% sure, but this is the case. Also, many of the scripts that were available for a moblog required cron jobs and other extreme tuning to be done. I don’t like that. I want to keep the blog simple as possible. mfop2 now sends all the stuff to my blog and updates it without cron jobs. Nice and simple, just the way I like it.

The downside of this of course is that this reminds my previous site quite a lot. But I think this works quite well so I’ll let it be like this. I also realised how important a moblog was to me personally. I also keep it as a place to store photos so I can remember when I’ve been doing what etc. In some ways I think it is easier to post to my moblog and store the stuff here, rather than download it with a cable from my phone. Why? Sending an e-mail to mfop2 is rather painless and quick - the downside? GPRS costs, just what I ranted about a bit in my recent post.
